The Sami flag

The Sami people is one of the world’s indigenous peoples and have been living unconstrained by borders for thousands of years.

They have their own unique culture, languages and costumes which make them different from the rest of the society.

One of them is their flag. Its main feature is the circle, which symbolizes both the sun and the moon. The red circle is the sun while the blue one is the moon. This motif was taken from a Sami poem that tells Samis as the “sons and daughter of the sun”.

The flag is also representing the Sami national colors, since there are the colors of the Kolt – the traditional costume
