The Sami Culture in Umea 2014

The Sami culture is represented in the activities of the European Capital of Culture in many different ways. The most important is the division of the culture year in 8 seasons according to the 8 seasons of the Sami calendar. Moreover, the programme of the year include many different activities involving the Sami culture expressed in designs, music, films and concerts. Another important programme supporting the Sami culture is the Sami cultural year at the Vasterbotten Museum that started on the 6th of Februrary, the Sami national day, of 2011. It includes projects such as the Sami Week, photo exhibition, Rock Art, and the documentaries The Cultural Landscapes of Sápmi and Cultural Heritage in Northern Scandinavian's Old Forests.
