Just at right of the Vasterbotten Museum building we can find the open air museum of Gammlia. The place is situated in the current center of the town and a walk from downtown takes no more than 10-15 min. This open museum shows the traditional life of the Swedish and Vasterbotten population through many different activities, buildings and animals. The most of the activities are carried out during the summer, when you can ride horse carriages, touch farm animals and work with your own hands such as a traditional Swedish. There are also many music events and celebrations. During the rest of the year, this place is quieter but there are still many activities. The Christmas market in march and the Sami weeks are very interesting and you shouldn’t missed them if you are in Umea.
