The activities during the European Capital of Culture year of Umea 2014 follow a scheduled program. The character of the activities depends on the time of the year, of course. They are different depending on the season of the year, since they affect us in or way of living and our mood depending on the weather variations. Therefore, the year of Umea as the European Capital of Culture is divided in 8 seasons. These division has been inspired in the calendar of the Sami people, a culture close to the nature. Each season have their own rhythm. The 8 seasons division of the year is: ? Winter [Dálvvie] December - March ? Late winter [Gijrradálvvie] March – April ? Spring [Gijrra] April – May ? Late Spring [Gijrragiessie] June ? Summer [Giessie] June – July ? Late summer [Tjakttajagiessie] August ? Autumn [Tjakttja] September – October ? Early winter [Tjakttjadálvvie]November - December
