Is it very interesting how history marks the development of the relationships between countries. In Spain, we have always studied at school about the historically rivalry between Spain, England and France, since it concerned very much. But this kind of rivalry has happened in almost all countries across the world. And Sweden is not less. For example, Sweden had a great rivalry with Russia. They have fought each other between the 18th and 19th centuries. For example, Finland has owned to Sweden until 2 centuries ago, when Russia “liberated” them from the Swedish supremacy. Therefore, when you talk to Finnish about Sweden they don’t love them very much, so to say. On the contrary, Swedish have not historically liked Russians. As an example, still nowadays, to frighten little Swedish children, Swedish mothers and grandmothers still say “Be careful, that the Russians will come to catch you! ” And this is even more said in Umea. And it is easy to understand. In 1714 and 1720 Russian troops burned this city to the ground, while in 1869 the Russian army captured Umea again.
