The city of Ulan-Ude is very calm and sunny. I would not recommend to go study there. You should visit for a couple of days or stay if you are on your way to Baikal. If you're old and not afraid of cold weather than it could be a nice place to live.

Russian food is the same all over the country, but here you can find Buryat food, which is amazing! Buuzy is a must. Also, you will find a lot of Chinese food.

What places would you recommend visiting in Ulan-Ude?

Datsan na lysoi gore is a beautiful and spiritual place. Also the central square with Lenin's sculpture, Arbat. You also have to go to Ivolginsky Datsan which is the buddhist center of Russia. And the Baikal Lake of course.

What advice would you give future students heading to Ulan-Ude?

Don't stay for long, you will get very bored. One time visit is enough.
