Experiences during my studies in Beijing, China
University of International Business and Economics is one of the best Chinese universities for anything related to business or economics. It is widely known in China for its international atmosphere and spirit. One fun fact is that Jack Ma (founder of Alibaba and currently richest individual in China) wanted to study at this university but his application wasn't accepted. This reflects how competitive admission to UIBE actually is (for foreign students it is a lot less competitive). At the moment there are around 12000 students enrolled, which is a relatively small number compared to other Chinese universities.
I am really having a great time studying at UIBE! The city has so much to offer, my fellow classmates are amazing and I have a lot of freetime :D
Lectures:
Until now I have only had courses taught in mandarin especially for foreigners. These courses are only attended by foreigners. Since the professors/lecturers keep in mind that they are talking to non-native speakers, it is not too hard to follow the lecture (my Chinese level is HSK5 - 6). If you have passed HSK 5 you should not have any problems.
My major is 工商管理 (Management) and until now I have had the following courses:
- Chinese economy
- Basic Info about China
- International Management
- International Relations
- and Mandarin courses
The content is very basic considering that I am in my 5th semester.
I have 8 lectures per week. Every lecturer has to check attendance because your attendance is also a factor in your final grade. If you miss more than two thirds of the lectures than you're not eligible to participate in the final exam, thus, you have failed the course.
I am not able to write any longer here, so if you want to know more, please visit my blog: http://flatjet24.com/blog/ :)
