Erasmus in Hamburg

There are several pros and cons I could add to my summer semester in Hamburg University. However, the outcome of your education and degree of satisfaction comes from one main fact: do you speak German or not? If your answer is yes, then it might be worth your while to peek into Hamburg and the university.

As a city, Hamburg is vivid with life day and night, where cultures and various nations meet, especially around the university. It has an amazing night-life that can be shared in experience with friends or acquaintances. But, one must be aware of the fact that certain individuals might disagree with.

Germans, especially those studying in Hamburg University, tend to be more isolated from internationals than any other people I have ever met. As an friendly and social person, this bugged me a lot. The people are nice and very helpful, yet you will feel a constant distance and coldness that the germans are famous for. The people are very formal and diligent, thus being a goofy erasmus student who studied hard in my home uni to enjoy Hamburg and party more, I must say that the indigenous population was a burden to be friend.
