Experience in University of Cape Town, South Africa by Maggie
Generally, what is University of Cape Town like?
UCT is a great University ideally situation at the foot of Devil's Peak, a beautiful mountain. Students often hike to Rhodes memorial during lunch (also known as Meridian). People are generally friendly and are always willing to grab a beer at the UCT pub, conveniently situated on upper campus.
What are the facilities like?
The facilities are sometimes old but mostly work. It may be difficult to gain access to certain facilities but an email to whom ever in charge may solve this problem.
What are the tutors like?
The tutors are amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to help.
Are the lessons easy in University of Cape Town?
I wouldn't say they are easy but if you are interested in the topic or spend some time and effort on it, it can be.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
Yes, sporting activities, welcome parties, outreach activities for disadvantage children, careers days and so on.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
Yes, many lectures are involved in cutting-edge research or are experts in their field of study.
Are there any stories you can share?
Sure UCT is great but there is obviously the problem of exorbitant fees, a lack of parking facilities and extremely slow admin. But all in all it's a great University and I enjoy being part of it.
