Our Experience in Sighisoara
First of all, I want to tell you about an experience we had in Sighisoara, but I had to put the Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad as the location as it was the nearest place to Sighisoara that the system recognised.
When you’re left with no accommodation
We arrived in Sighisoara with the truck, we had booked accommodation, like always, we went with everything organised in advance. We always use Airbnb for accommodation, which is paid in advance, but this time for various reasons we chose to book through a different platform which meant that payment was made upon arrival.
What happened?
When we arrived at the accommodation, which was a kind of residential area for rented housing, we found that nobody would answer the door to us and we could not enter ourselves. Finally, one of us realised the problem: we had got the wrong date. We were in Sighisoara, a city totally unknown to us, it was almost dusk and we didn’t have anywhere to stay.
Solution
We quickly searched through another platform and booked another accommodation and in less than 20 minutes we were in there and they had already prepared the rooms for us. It was all so easy and quick, it was the perfect place for us to stay.
This was the accommodation that we found, it was really good. The lady was waiting for us when we arrived even though we had only made the reservation less than 20 minutes ago, and considering she was quite old, she was very well-informed.
The accommodation was great; it was heated like all housing over there because of the cold weather, and also the electricity there is so much cheaper than in Spain. The gave us three double rooms, each with a large, private bathroom.
The previous image shows our van in front of the accommodation. As you can see it was two storeys, and the doors in the centre led onto the corridors with the double rooms. It was very well priced through an offer that we found, so we were really lucky.
Eating Out in Sighisoara
It was our lucky day, we went out for dinner at a restaurant near us and we ate well. Usually, everything there is cheaper, as much as four times cheaper. Most restaurants we went to cost about €5 each and we ate a lot of great food. Here are photos of some of the dishes we ordered:
This is a starter typical of the area, with red onions, local sausages and cheese.
This is also a typical Romanian casserole dish.

To get to the historic centre from our accommodation we climbed a very scenic route up the mountain, with views of the beautiful landscape and all the autumnal leaves on the ground. The city is laid out so that the houses are at the bottom of the mountain and the historic centre is at the top. I think there was also transport to get up the mountain where you had to pay but we didn’t use it.
The centre is really special and when you’re up high the views are amazing.
