Why did I go to Paraguay for an Erasmus??
Type of mobility: Undergraduate
Duration of the scholarship: 6 months (From July to December 2014)
Host University: Universidad Nacional de Concepción, Paraguay
1. Academic/research activities carried out at the host university
During my stay at the National University of Concepcion, Paraguay, I have studied six subjects were divided into the practical and theoretical part. In the theoretical classes we listened the teacher's explanations and took notes. In the practical classes we made field trips, visits to small businesses in the area and even a trip to another city called Encarnación. We have also conducted surveys in the municipal market and tests with different crops in the experimental field of the University. We did all those things to put into practice the theoretical knowledge given in class.
Best of study my career in other university, in other hemisphere and on another continent, is that you learn their methods and ways of working and several varieties of different crops they own.
I have also participated in several conferences, seminars and auditoriums offered by the same university to enrich my knowledge.
2. My stay at the host university
My stay at the host university was very interesting. I realized several extracurricular activities such as a fair Agribusiness in which we prepared typical food and products used in homes, and there were explaining their elaboration.
I was dragged into some academic activities like congresses, seminaries and workshops organized by the University where important people of the country came to explain the situation of the country concerning livestock and agricultural industry. I visited too businesses in the area that work with raw material as charcoal, coconut expeller, chia, soy.... The extra-curricular activities I have been involved in university associations like traditional dance and matches competition. I dressed up with their typical dress and I tried to drum up some support from my partners.
3. Returning to my home country
This mobility has given me lot of knowledge because Paraguay has different weather and fewer economic resources than my region of Spain.
When I return to my home country Spain, the plan to apply the knowledge and experience acquired during your mobility, it will be share these ideas with my classmates and my teachers, explaining other options to perform practical work.
I will convey to them my whole experience of the last six months.
Conception is a character beef cattle area, so I turned on enough about that topic. I also met new crops like castor, cassava, sweet potato, passion fruit, papaya...
When I will work on my workplace, I can advise people not only knowledge I learned in Spain, also techniques used in this part of the world as it is South America.
In South America often have to face up to hard experiences. While in Europe the resources we have are more developed and less heavy handling than South America.
I want to dwell on the benefits of this new study programme. It´s highly likely that in the future some cooperation activities planned between my home university and the host university because this cooperation benefits both universities.
