Black Sea University
Erasmus opportunity
Another day, another post, well probably is going to be among my last posts but i couldn't end this blog yet before i show you guys one of my favorite universities in Turkey and a good choice for future Erasmus students. I was thinking this post will be an amazing presentation about a great university in Turkey which among others is situated in a more great and touristic city and nowadays Turkey being among the top destinations for Erasmus exchanges. I thought why not tell you guys all about this potential university.
Karadeniz Technical University or in translation ''Karadeniz'' which means ''Black Sea'' University is a public university in the city which I currently live for the past one year and half, Trabzon. Of course if you have read my posts so far you may know all about the city and the lifestyle here. The university is quite familiar to me, I took many daily trips here and it's on my list for a potential job in the near future probably at the Erasmus office, but will see about it. Also my boyfriend Muhammet studies here so why not give you some information and all about it.
The university has a great Erasmus program which hosts every semester up to 20 students from various countries and last year around this time I had the chance to meet a few of these students, a girl from Romania and a boy from Moldova came here with Erasmus and of course I met up with them and ask them why Trabzon?, why Karadeniz? and I actually found out many surprisingly interesting things about this university.
Facts about the University
- It is a public state University and it's the fourth oldest university in Turkey so it goes way back with almost 70 years since it was built.
- Its campus is huge with 15 faculties, a conservatory, institutional schools, colleges and research centers. Dormitories inside the campus, cafeterias, restaurants, sport area, ATM's and you named it, this university has it all. Plus bus ride between faculties.
- A pool area, a concert place, an old Greek theater lookalike and high education value all under one campus.
The pool inside the campus overlooking the Black Sea.
Also from the other side of the campus there is a view of the Trabzon Airport which is close by.
- The university has many foreign students not just with Erasmus, usually the students from other countries can apply for full scholarship here at the Karadeniz, I saw many Asian and African students who study here. Also they get some advantages like free dormitory among other things.
- A great deal of students go abroad with Erasmus, the university has a lot of agreements with plenty of universities in Europe as well as United States and Japan or African countries.
- Each faculty has it's own private building which is awesome and also has other campuses around the city.
- They have awesome students groups where they always gather students and they go on various trips around the city and also in Georgia which is the closest country from here.
I went back yesterday to take this pictures, unfortunately it's so raining here in Trabzon for the past week and the campus was almost empty even though the school started this Monday.
If I had the chance to apply again for Erasmus in Turkey I will for sure choose to come at this university and mostly is because of the city, you will never find a better city in all Turkey where the sea and the mountains are in one place, it's spectacular. And also during the summer the place is packed with tourists (mostly Arabic).
- They always have international conferences and meetings which are always helpful for the students.
- I forgot to mention that the university is the first one in the country which was build outside Istanbul and Ankara.
- They have their own radio station and Television as well, ''Radio KTU 106. 2'' and ''KTU TV'' channel, how awesome is that?!
The students I have been told you that i met last year, they came to Karadeniz for Erasmus studies during one semester and basically they told me that their university had many agreements abroad but their only option for Turkey was the Black Sea University. They started to love the city since they arrived here and they took part in so many activities and trips basically weekly I saw they were going somewhere, so they were absolutely pleased about the city and the university.
Of course not all universities are easy as well, this university in particular demands for the Erasmus students to attend almost daily classes even if they are taught in Turkish language. I guess they were not so lucky as me but in Erasmus sometimes you need to do the work as well, not everything is fun.
But overall i think is worth it and if you ever get a chance to come to Turkey apply for Karadeniz even though your university does not have a bilateral agreements still write them hopefully they are open to cooperation and which university is not?! Trust me and if you are interested you can make your own research on their website or by email.
Wish you all a great first autumn day!
