For me, Temuco is a very peaceful place to live. I recommend it, because it's a place with a lot of greenery you can go to while still having the comfort of being in the city. What most stands out to me about Temuco is that it has a very good location and lots of transport in the city.

What is the student lifestyle like in Temuco?

I think it's a great place to study. It's tranquil and is close to everything a student would want to see. You can say that Temuco is one of the biggest student centres in Chile, alongside Concepción and Santiago (the capital).

How much does it cost to live in Temuco?

The prices in Chile have been affected by inflation, particularly the price of food. But students can get benefits from the public student organisation, called "Mineduc", such as a pass for food and cheaper access to public transport. Temuco (as a place for students) is much cheaper in comparison with Santiago or Concepción.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Temuco? Is there any advice you can give?

Even though I live in Temuco, I know that a lot of my friends and people I studied with didn't have any trouble finding acommodation. There are hostels and house that take in students at an affordable price.

What is the food like there? What were your favourite dishes?

The food depends on where you go to eat. There are different restaurants with different types of food, but here in Temuco they go for chatarra food, parrilladas, Chinese food or sushi. There are still places that serve traditional Chilean and seafood (fish and shellfish). The seafood products from Temuco are excellent with the local fruit and vegetables. There are also a lot of patisseries and cafés.

Where would you recommend to visit in Temuco?

In the city, I would recommend the Parque Estadio and Av Alemania. But the areas on the outskirts of the city are the best, there's Villarrica or Pucón, which are next to the Villarrica lake. There's also Icalma and Melipeuco that are more into the mountain range.

And to eat in Temuco? What were your favourite places?

I would recommend the café and patisserie Marriet, which, being a restaurant as well, serves healthy and delicious food at an affordable price. But what they do best there is their cakes.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Temuco?

Avenida Alemania is an area with a lot of pubs and restaurants, which are right beside the main student centres in Temuco. The safest areas, however, are the ones in the business area of the Barrio Ingles. But here in Temuco young people tend to have parties is their residences because it's cheaper and this way you make better friends.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to in the future Temuco?

If anyone needs a quieter city to help them concentrate, this is the perfect city. Some people might not be able to deal with the ever-changing climate and they might hate the heavy rain. I also have to say that it's a city with a lot of trees and you might have problems with allergies here (like me). But with nothing else.
