Experience in Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece by Emil

Generally, what is Technological Education Institute of Athens like?

My thoughts on TEI cannot be considered accurate because my opinion comes of experiencing only one department in one school in the TEI. Overall, I'm quite satisfied by the level of education, but I have to say that to get something out of your studies there, you have to fight it, research it on your own and work hard with the guidance of the right teachers. Plus you have to know a bit what do you want from the field you're studying so that you can follow your own path once you start your studies.

What are the facilities like?

The building complex is quite new, compared to other universities in Athens and quite big. It is maintained quite nicely and has a great library for all departments. The graffity on every wall and the smoking on all premises, show the greek mentality of being openly loose and 'chill'.

What are the tutors like?

Some are very good, interested in what they are doing and very helpful, others unfortunately are incapable teachers, not helpful at all, rude and uncooperative with the students and the rest of the staff. Sometimes I get the feeling that some students would be more qualified in teaching the same courses.

Are the lessons easy in Technological Education Institute of Athens?

That depends and varies. Some lessons are very easy to pass and you don't need to work a lot for those, but there you don't get to learn much. The more difficult lessons have way more active teachers and when you pass them you really do feel that you've learned something from them. The more difficult a lesson is the more interesting and informative it is.

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

The only activity I've seen whilst studying there was a trip to Thessaloniki to visit the annual Photography Biennale, which was not organised by the University but by a teacher who did it voluntarily. Apart from that the only thing I've seen was a blood donation in the corridor, where students could donate some blood.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

There is and there isn't. As I've said before, there are teachers who do their job well, you learn from them, they help you, you get work done and there's mutual respect. Unfortunately though, there are teachers who are the exact opposite.
