Swedish bank account

I have previously talked about the problems that Swedish currency, the Swedish kronas implies and also about the changing values that it has regarding the euro. Now, I am going to explain here how to open a Swedish bank account following the information that my University has given me when I arrived.

It is a quite easy process, but it requires some paper work.

First, I must say that you must have your passport, if you don´t have it you can´t do it. It is not valid if you only use your Identity Card, your passport is an essential requisite. After that you must get your personumber, that means your personal number. This is similar to an Idendity Card but Swedish. It is there when they check about your profession, type of account, the time you will stay in the country... Students don´t usually have much problems.

Banks that require less procedures are SEB and AB, and those are the ones that my University has recommend me, precisely for that matter.

Also, be careful when closing your bank account. Don´t forget to do it before coming back to Spain, because, if not, they will continue sending mail to your address where you used to live in Sweden. The best is that you make sure that you have closed your account and that they are not going to send you more information. Nobody has to know about your paperwork and procedures with the bank.
