What is it like to live in Stavanger? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Stavanger is like a water city, it can start raining any time and when you live here for a while you start loving it. It's very calm and beautiful, there are loads of nature around you. Very expensive too but you manage to deal with it.

What is the student lifestyle like in Stavanger?

Students here are mostly living in dorms and they get to see each other in kitchens or library because otherwise they hibernate inside their rooms or work.

How much does it cost to live in Stavanger?

It is very expensive to live in Stavanger, it costs around 4000 kr a month on food if you eat well and not starve yourself. Rent is very high even for student accommodation, transport is very efficient but very expensive.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Stavanger? Is there any advice you can give?

Stavanger is a very populated city, it's not difficult to find accommodation you can occupy through university or SIS or through Facebook groups, you can find a private place too nearby.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is mostly fish or pork but you find everything in stores, I miss KFC badly though.

You can go to restaurants but you need a pocket full to pay the bills and in stores you can buy grocery to make your own meals that will cost less than restaurants but still cost you a lot. It's good to buy food that has offer on them, download the app 'Mattibud' and you can get to know about offers on all stores.

City center is a good place for a coffee or walk, Sandness center is good too, the cathedral, the AMFI etc. When you come here you will figure out.

Is it good to eat out in Stavanger? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is, if you like steaks go to XO Grill in centrum, it's expensive but worth it and fish and cows are good too. But the best is NB SØRENSENS, which is in AMFI Madla and in centrum, in front of water, it is very reasonable price wise and tastes good.

Is the nightlife good in Stavanger? Where is good to go?

I am a hypersomniac person so I will rather sleep at night.

What advice would you give future students heading to Stavanger?

Come with high expectations and the city will meet them. Do not worry, just enjoy, explore and make sure to stay dry.
