Hi! I am going to Sofia from next year June to September, to do a traineeship. I am looking for a flat to share, anyone interested? :)

Hey Erasmus, we are looking for a new housemate in the center of Sofia. Cheap rent, central location. Check out info and pics on couchsurfing http://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=46158&post=10630550

laura, nbu is not situated in a very nice area, I would rally recommend to a foreigner to stick to the center. From there you have a mini bus -marshrutka that wll take you to the university for 0,75 euro cents. The thing is that Sofia is very small and there is a big difference among the areas. But the transport and the taxis are very cheap. Why not to take advantage and really enjoy your stay there? Anyway Erasmus students do not have a lot of classes, they move to a new country to get to know the culture and the customs.

bye bye

Hello

I am not an Erasmus Student, but a french 26 year old expat... (not so old, I do hope so :D)

I'll arrive in Sofia next wednesday (February 15th, 2012) and I am looking for a room in a flat to share... I have just known this affectation yesterday, that's why I am looking something pretty quickly ! I will work at the french institute, I think it's in the center of Sofia..

Let me know if someone is interested !

I am very used to international atmosphere, cause I was myself an Erasmus student 4 years ago !

And if there is not any proposition for a flat to share, I am also really interested by meeting new people ! :)

Thanks ! And see you soon :)

Caroline

Caroline,

just 2 tips before your arrival to sofia. Get your warmest clothes, it is very cold there and the weather forecast is not so promissing. And another one, the French Center is situated in the center, close to Galibaldi square. Any room in the center will be perfect for you,  just stick to the part of the center around Sheraton, NDK and the UnIversity of Sofia. For around 200-250 euros you are supposed to find a fantastic room in a refurbished flat, keep looking,

Bonne chance!

Thank you very much Olga for all these details ! Yes I bought especially some warm clothes :)

I can't wait to be there !!!

Hi guys!

It gives me great pleasure to see how many of you will or want to go to Sofia. Personally, I believe the city is amazing. I'm sure you will NOT regret that decision. Anyway, let me give you some background - my girlfriend is a Bulgarian. She's studying at the Uni of Sheffield and this is where I met her. Every winter and summer, she goes back to Sofia. So as you have probably guessed it, this is why I've spent a great deal of time in the city. This June, right after her graduation, I'm moving with her to Sofia, but this time permanently :) I hope that I can help you guys with some advices. And maybe I'll see you in Bulgaria pretty soon.

Sofia is truly amazing. There is a large number of incredible places to go and fun stuff to do, especially in the city centre and that's why I would give you this advice - live in the centre. Everything you need is in the centre just minutes away - bars, cafes, shops, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, etc. It's also extremely easy to move around, especially with a bike. If you don't have one - buy one! :) If you don't want to buy one, you might as well just walk. If your destination is further away from the city centre you could use the public transport.

The nightlife is also great. It doesn't matter if you want a night out or just a couple of pints. The centre is packed with young, open - minded and outgoing people. In fact, in the centre you can also find a number of great parks. What people do is to gather there and to have fun together over drinks and music, right there - in the open and from what I've experienced, you can easily find interesting people to make friends with.

So there you have it. Quite briefly, these are some of the reasons why I would advise you to live in the city centre. Explore it. Explore the culture. And this comes from my own impressions of the city. If you have any questions, please do tell! I'll be happy to answer.

Adam
