Livin' la vida Erasmus!

Hello everybody, I'm an international student studying in Sligo, Ireland. I just wanna tell you my experience cause when I chose my erasmus destination I couldn't find anything, and I think that maybe my opinion could be useful for new students.

Sligo is a small town in Ireland but full of erasmus, so don't worry cause there are a lot of people to meet from all over the world. You can also find a lot of pubs, live music, a few night clubs...

The university (IT Sligo) is 20 minutes walking from the city center, the courses aren't very difficult, with 30 people per classroom more or less and with a lot of erasmus students. The lecturers in general are very friendly, they will help you if you have issues and also if you have problems with the language. The meal in the canteen is expensive and not very healthy, so maybe you will bring your own food. The courses are from 9h00 until 18h00, it's depends on if you have luck or not. You can have a dictionary during the exams (the university brings them).

In terms of accomodation I just know two student residences: Gateway and Milligan Court. The first one is just for students who are going to spend a full academic year in Sligo, the second one the hole academic year and also one semester (there are other residences but I dont know their features). Gateway is just 1 minute walking from IT, there are apartments of 2 or 3 people, the electricity is more expensive than in Milligan (the electricity is very expensive in Ireland but the water is free of charge), most of the students here are Irish, if you have guests with you won't have any problem to embrace them, staff are kind. The disadvantage is that is far from the supermarkets (25 minutes walking) but the university brings a bus service, once per week to the supermarket, they bring you back too.

In Milligan Court you will apartments more modern but the administration sucks, staff is just looking for money, they will charge you for eveything and you just can have a guest for 2 nights per month, otherwise you will have to pay. They use to realize inspections every 6 weeks and they will charge you if the flat is not clean or tidy. You have to pay 4 euros every time that you want to wash your clothes, in Gateway you will have your own washing machine. It's very cold inside the apartments and wet. Staff get into your house when they want, even if you are not at home and without warning. If your forget your key they will charge you 50 euros for open the door.

In general Sligo is a good place for an erasmus, you have all the basic staff, Irish people is generally kind, there are a lot things going on around the town, a lot of erasmus, the university organizes a lot of activities... I will recommend Sligo definitely.
