Šiauliai is a small city. Most of Šiauliai University buildings are in the centre of city as well as university dorms. Public transportation is cheap for students and it takes about 30 minutes to travel through whole city by bus. It is very cold in winter so don't forget to bring warm clothes.
What is the student lifestyle like in Siauliai?
Studying in Šiauliai is not very hard. Art students do not have lectures on fridays. Lecturers are friendly and helpful. There are small groups of students so everyone is noticed and gets attention.
How much does it cost to live in Siauliai?
It depends on your lifestyle. Šiauliai is a small city so living cost is about up to 300 euros/ month.
There are a lot of places where you can eat cheap.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Siauliai? Is there any advice you can give?
Exchange students usually get dorms, but it is not that hard to rent a private flat.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Lithuanians like fat food. Most dishes are made from meat or potatoes. Lithuanian national dish is Cepelinai.
What places would you recommend visiting in Siauliai?
There are a lot of places to visit, check on internet.
Is it good to eat out in Siauliai? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
There are a lot of affordable cafes and restaurants there you can eat like Čili pica, CanCan, Soya sushi bar.
And places like Adiadia, Tomilo užkandinė where you can find kebabs, french fries, dumplings. There you can eat for about max 3 euros.
Is the nightlife good in Siauliai? Where is good to go?
A lot of places to party starting from Kapilol, Mojo Lounge, Mosquito night clubs to Space bar, Blic bar and Rock'n'Roll Irish pub if you like alternative things.
There are two big shopping malls - Saulės miestas ir Akropolis.
What advice would you give future students heading to Siauliai?
Šiauliai is a great place to visit and study. Just don't forget to bring warm clothes because winter is coming.
