Generally, what is Sheffield Hallam University like?

Sheffield Hallam is a university with the most friendly atmosphere imaginable. Located directing opposite the train station perched on one of many hills is the university with more charm and personality than any other. I fell in love with the university before i even decided to go there.

What are the facilities like?

Incredible facilities including a 24/7 library. The library at Hallam is such a cool space it will encourage even the least studious to go and get their heads down. Also many of the building have a cafe or coffee machine which is so important for students because our number 1 priority is food and coffee. Hands down the ugliest looking students union in the whole country but full of activities and friendly faces. Plus the bar which although is more expensive than the local pub in Sheffield, is a great place for a few drinks or a pub quiz.

What are the tutors like?

Tutors although we are programmed to hate them are actually really helpful. Most are really friendly and will always give you 5 minutes if you need help with something. I would say as a business school student that all the tutors have been really kind and helpful during my time so far at Hallam.

Are the lessons easy in Sheffield Hallam University?

Easy isn't the word. Some classes can be really challenging depending what you study. For example as a languages student my classes can be quite tough as they aren't in English. However the business classes are really easy to follow.

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

There's always something going on at Hallam whether it's active week or mental health awareness. The students union are perfect at organizing event and keeping people involved. Plus its really easy to keep up with whats happening if you use social media like Instagram and Facebook.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

This is a tough question for any university student because the whole point of uni is to learn to be more self sufficient. I would say some teaching is much better than others. The ones who get involved and encourage the students to feel more at ease are the best kind.

Are there any stories you can share?

I'm still studying here at Hallam but i would say Hallam is perfect for the fun loving and relaxed people. If you love a bit of friendly rivalry then Hallam sports and varsity is the place to be. Varsity week is the most intense week for a Sheffield student and even if you hate sports its the most collective part of uni plus the Ice Hockey is suppose to be amazing!
