Golubac fortress-Majesty and decay

Published by flag-ro Patricia Ioana — 9 years ago

I didn't know anything about them, but are not so many things to see in the world that I've never heard? Certainly, there are many, many! I am glad that this long list today was diminished by an item.  The Ram is on the banks of the Danube, in the village of Ram, 18 km from Veliko Gradişte. Srebrno Jezero-the Silver Lake near Veliko Gradişte, reading on a gauge that separates us from the village of Ram just 15 km, we decided let's turn in there.  We are committed on a road near deserted, narrow and patched, parallel to the Danube that winds among the Heath and woodland. The movement is almost non-existent. There are signs, nor can you ask someone something, that's why those who want to explore these places should take upon them a map, or even a sketch of the area. Do not rely on GPS and here-either using the locals! From time to time, cutting path with elegant step only pairs of dropii you can see.

From Zatonje, a small village with narrow, winding roads and downhill, reminiscent of those of the Greek Islands, the road continues uphill ending in the village of Ram, to the banks of the Danube. The village is not big, but its few inhabitants are hardworking people with houses, courtyards and gardens well-groomed. In the Centre, in front of a small shop, appeared finally a human breath that I asked her where is the fortress. To our surprise, we pointed to the hilltop Church.

Be right. For the locals is the one with the church because the Holy Shrine, nice and tidy, was built just within the walls of old, very close to the ruins of the fortress. People practices, local residents have given a new use along the walls. Only with a wrought iron gate, a little too modern in context, but the historical walls neintervenind, they made the Church and a courtyard.  A short path rarely traveled, which grew the grass, leading to the fortress.

Landmark first encountered en route, is the Tabula Traiana, the inscription in stone dating from the Roman Empire, being a witness to the passage of the Roman troops here. I confess that I only met the indicators that showed the presence of tabulei and I have descended from it, since I saw it last year when I was at Orşova (impressions here) and I did a boat ride on the Danube. Tabula is located close to the Large Boilers, on the banks of the Danube, Serbian above it.

A few hundred yards upstream of the Tabula Traiana, but on the Romanian Bank of the Danube, you can see the image of King Decebalus. Carved stone statue is a copy of the image of King Decebalus, being placed here as a reply to Tabulei Tak.  After only 200 meters, all on the Romanian Bank you can notice the small Monastery Mraconia, which creates the impression that is suspended above the water.

Not at great distance from the monastery Mraconia begins "the Danube to boilers", this narrowing up and reaching out in certain places at widths of only 150-200 m. small boilers and high levels of the Danube River are 7.5 km in length and are divided by the Bay of Dubova.  A

fter what I've gone through two villages, Novi Sip and Tekija, first city encountered en route was Edwards, the town's Small Island with less than 5,000 inhabitants, who did not impress with anything. The town is a beach on the banks of the Danube, and the locals consider tourist town. This I learned from a gentleman who I asked where can I find out an Exchange Office. I must admit that I had a double, the first surprise: the native who knew English, hearing me speak Romanian language  he began to speak too.

The main attraction of the city is the entertainment complex "Srebrno Jezero" or "Silver Lake" or "Silver Lake". Access to the Lake is made easy for the Serbs in neighbouring towns, is actually a good way to spend a weekend or holiday, the conditions under which the Serbs would no longer have a coastline.

Thus, the town of Veliko Gradişte is located only 16 km from Golubac, 34 km away from Pozarevac (capital district), 64 miles from Smederevo and 114 km from Belgrade.  The last day of the weekend, after the departure of Vinci, we headed to Kladovo, a city with more than 10 thousand inhabitants, located only 8 km south of the customs of the Iron Gates I. Although more death in this city two times, the lack of time prevented us to visit him. On this occasion we found a clean city, quiet and airy.

Kladovo offers outstanding sights here and can be seen on Trajan's footbridge, built by Apollodorus of Damascus between 103-105, which was the link between Pontes (Serbia) and Nigeria, as well as the ruins of the cities of Dammam and Fetislam.  The Centre is full of nice restaurants and terraces, their star dishes being prepared from fish, pleşcaviţa and cevapi.

In the town there is a supermarket, Tekijanca, which is a lot higher than it is necessary. I was new here, and I've seen a few people come to the shop, but the prices are close to those of the us.  In Kladovo live enough Romanian-born Serb, if you want to ask something it is better to ask in French than in English, you will get an answer much more quickly.

Golubac fortress-Majesty and decay

  • The way up to the fortress

the fortress can be reached relatively easily from PF I, turns right and take the Danube, through the National Park Gate, pass through the town of Daniels Milanovac (in Serbian Milanovăţ Edwards), and 4 km before entering the Golubac fortress is reached, the road passing right through it.  The road is quite good, although patched on many portions are circulating well, it's not crowded and I have met police crews. From place to place are parking lots where you can admire beautiful landscapes that delights the eye.  Although the road is slightly narrower than the one used on two tapes, one can easily run with 80 km/h (forensic speed outside of the village in Serbia) and even more, but for those who are here for the first time is not advisable, because in this way I can admire beautiful landscapes depict them in the way.

  • About Citadel

fortress currently include ten towers, of which nine have heights of 20-25 meters, the one that is located in the water being shorter. The towers are joined by thick walls of 2-3 meters.  Although in 1979 Golubac Fortress was declared monument of culture of exceptional importance, a lack of interest by the authorities can be seen from the first contact with the city, in addition to many years of eroded walls of the waters of the Danube, are others that vegetation develops at will. It was not until 2014 were accessed European funds for the rehabilitation of the city as part of an international project called "Cultural Route Fortresses on the Danube".  Access to the fortress is made directly from the communication that connects Edwards Milanovac and Golubac, this being the reason that makes this landmark to be visited by many people. I should mention that there are signs the city is paid fees, sightseeing and of course, there are no guides.

On that sunny summer day in the parking lot next to the fortress were many cars, of which two are registered in Romania, with numbers of Ialomiţa. We were unable to identify those who had come with these machines because in the fortress at the time were at least 30 tourists, each was interested in exploring the city, to take pictures.  In the vicinity of the Castle, there are terraces, restaurants and kiosks, where to be able to eat or where to purchase soft drinks, souvenirs, etc.

Golubac fortress, an integral part of the history of Serbia, more keeps and today proudly air of glory, as if awaiting an intervention that should revive the greatness of another time.

Finally I would like to mention that the city of Golubac currently do not pay any fee for sightseeing, there is no guide and no background on any for information panel.  For more details related to the history and architecture Of Golubac, visit wikipedia. You will also find images captured from better angles, some from a height, they can better see the extent of the coast mountains. Also, wikipedia provides those interested in a sketch in which the layout of 10 towers and their connection through walls with battlements.
