Ronda is a small town in the south of Spain in the province of Málaga, it is situated in between of two national parks and, seen from the city of Málaga, a little drive into the inland. The town doesn’t consist of much, still tons of tourists find their way here every year. And that is most of all for the famous and beautiful bridge of Ronda.
The “Puente Nuevo” is an impressive bridge that connects the two sides of the city Ronda which is separated by a canyon, where the river Guadalevín flows through. It has three arches and measures 98 m at its highest point. From the top of the bridge you get a beautiful view on the scenery surrounding of Ronda: lots of nature, a beautiful valley with fields, woods and mountains on the horizon.
What is really special about Ronda is that it sits pretty much on the big rocks surrounding the canyon, which leads to an amazing view from the top of the bridge. All the cute little white houses sitting on top of these massive and high stone formations, looking like you could jump out of the window right into the deep canyon.
Another, and to me even more breathtaking, view can be enjoyed from the bottom of the Valley. You might have to find your way through the town and ask around, it also took us a while to make people understand which place we were looking for and to get the information on how to get there... but eventually we did and it was quite marvellous. From some place on the edge of the city a little way leads down to the canyon. After just a short walk you get to a viewpoint from where you have the complete view on the Puente Nuevo. The arches, the little waterfall under the bridge and the rock formation with Ronda on top of it: definitely a place worth seeing! Also great place to take some cool pictures.
Next to the Puente Nuevo there are some other bridges in Ronda reaching over the canyon, although the Puente Nuevo is the highest and most impressive one. And also next to those spectacular features Ronda is definitely worth a visit. It is a really old town full of romantic places, cute historical buildings and squares. When I was there last year with four girlfriends we all agreed: that would be a perfect place for a romantic honeymoon!
But if on honeymoon or not, Ronda is always a good idea and one of the top things to see if you are visiting the south of Spain!
