23-year-old student from Germany with car looking for accommodation in/near Reykjavík

I am a very quiet person and am looking for a room I don’t have to share. As I will have a car, I would prefer not to live in the city center, but somewhere more remote. I have been to Iceland before on holidays, so if granted a wish, I would very much like to live in Hafnarfjörður!
I don’t smoke, and I love animals (I had some nice encounters with cats in Hafnarfjörður!), so it would be quite nice to move in with a person who owns a cat!
I study chemistry in Würzburg, Germany, and I will be coming to Iceland for a traineeship at the University of Iceland from April 1 to October 31, 2019, during which time period I need a place to live in.
Preceeding this period, i.e. during the last two weeks in March, I‘ll be traveling the east fjords. That’s the Icelandic region I haven’t seen during my last visit to Iceland.
