A calm day at Punta Cana
Description
The Dominican Republic is a place that steals your heart. Near Punta Cana beach you can find different types of hotels: cheap ones, like Four Points by Sheraton, or expensive, luxurious ones like Hard Rock Hotel.
You can arrive directly to Punta Cana by plane since there is an airport there, but the city is a two-hour drive away from Santo Domingo, really close. The area is not crowded at all, the beach is very clean, and you can enjoy an almost empty beach if you arrive early enough. At the time I went there, there were around 30 people at its most "crowded".
The beach
The sea is transparent and clean. You can see a lot of harmless fishes and you can walk calmly into the sea for quite a long time without getting to deep waters. The sea is very calm and there are no big waves, at least in the afternoon, so you can relax and enjoy the view. It looks like paradise, really. I didn't see any people trying to sell things to tourists or annoying us in any way, so that made the experience a lot better.
What to do after the beach?
At night, you can visit some of the fanciest, most incredible night clubs in the Caribbean. I did not go there, but some of the most famous ones are Imagine, Jewel, Coco Bongo and Oro. Tourists and Dominicans alike recommend them, saying they're a great experience for anyone who likes to dance, have a few drinks, and get some crazy party action at night.
