Accommodation in Poznan

Accomodation in Poznan.

This is one of the headaches that almost everyone who is leaving for Erasmus has: and where will I live? How am I going to look for accommodation?

Well, in Poznan it is easy enough to solve this problem. Most of you will live in one of the many residences throughout the city. The bad thing is if your university is private, but we will go to that later...

The best residences I know of are, without a doubt, Zbyszko and Jagienka, both located next to each other, a half hour walk from the centre but 8 minutes from the centre by tram. Inside they look like hotels, totally. Most of the rooms are doubles, although there are some singles. They are very very large, with very comfortable beds, good closets, drawers under the beds, a good desk and a table for each bed. They also have bathroom inside each room. They are the newest residences, and they are great. There is internet connection, a study room, laundry and a canteen. And in the surroundings, you have everything: the Carrefour to a tram stop, the Biedronka (something like Dia) in the same door, copy shop, pizzeria, the tram stop and buses right next door...

On the other hand, in that same area, there are more residences (right now I can not remember the name) but they are quite tacky: very small rooms and shared bathrooms between several rooms. In addition, they are much older.

You also have the Jowita, which is in the centre, on one of the most important avenues of the city. At the door, there is a crossroad where many trams pass. The bad thing about this is that it is also quite old, the rooms are small and the bathrooms are shared between 2 rooms. But in Jowita there are more individual rooms. Next door there are shops and places to eat, and of course downtown.

And finally there is the residence of the Politechnika, which I have not seen inside but I have been told that it is ok, even if it does not reach the level of the Jagienka and Zbyszko.

The problem is this: even if your Spanish university is public you may have an agreement with a private university in Poland, with which you do not have the right to a residence. Exactly, bitch! In addition, they do not help you to look for lodging, you have to look for it yourself, in a country of which you do not know anything, and even less the language. But do not despair, I do not know anyone who has stayed on the street.

There are plenty of flats to rent and rooms but you have to be quick because otherwise the best and cheapest ones will get snapped up. In addition, you do not have to be very fussy, keep in mind that Poland was Soviet until not long ago... The most important thing to be noticed is that the ceilings are not very high because otherwise, it is more difficult and more expensive to heat the house and that the windows are new, PVC, so the cold is filtered.

To search for accommodation there is the website that is the Polish version of gumtree or real estate. It is best to ask for help from someone in Poland since the university usually assigns you a mentor or tutor...

What is said, do not despair, you will find something. As for prices: the residences are between 70-120 euros per month; the rooms in flats depends... more or less between 100-200 euros per month.
