Mount Edgecumbe used to be inhabited by the earls of Edgecumbe. It is located south east of Cornwall, in Cremyll (Torpoint) and is facing the city of Plymouth (Devon, England).

How to get there
To get there from Plymouth, you have to cross the river Tamar (the limit between Cornwall and Devon), whether by using the small Cremyll ferries (1,75 £ each way I think, departures every 30 minutes in summer if I remember well). You can cross the Tamar bridge by car.
You can also get the bus to Mount Edgecumbe (I think that is n° 32 but you'd better check it out, just in case, provided I came on the ferry).
The entry to the park is free but if you want to visit the house, you have to pay. The ticket you buy is valid both for Mount Edgecumbe House and Port Eliot House, it costs 10£ per adult. I can't tell you more since I did not go inside the house, the outside is very pretty though.
There is a restaurant on Mount Edgecumbe, but frankly, I'd rather go have picnic on the grass, between the trees, next to a little pond with waterlilies and ducks... Wait... That's just what I did !
Indeed, what I liked about Mount Edgecumbe was the huge park. It was very nice to have a walk there and then just lie in the shade, chit-chat, and enjoy the peacefulness of the place and the beauty of the pond (I really loved it). I think if you come with children you may bring some open air games like a frisbee or a ball, must be nice as well.
You can also rent segways to enjoy the park in a fun, unusual way.
There are a lot of beautiful spots there, for example a small inlet / beach.
From many places on Mount Edgecumbe you can have a nice view of Plymouth, especially of the Hoe and the lighthouse (see other article).
Me and Drake's Island
You can also see Drake's island, off the coast of Plymouth, on Plymouth's sound. This island was named after the privateer Sir Francis Drake to honor him since he used Plymouth as his home port in the 16th century. Nowadays, it hosts old half-destroyed military barracks and vestiges from the Napoleonic era.

So to sum up, Mount Edgecumbe is the perfect place to enjoy a nice lovely day out with your friends and family.
