Passau is very unique because there it is a feeling between living rural and urban. It has 50. 000 inhabitants, so it is still comfortable in contrast to large cities. Additionally, you can enjoy beside the Bavarian an Italian atmosphere because of the circumstances with the rivers. Notice Passau has as second name "Bavarian Venice".

What is the student lifestyle like in Passau?

The student lifestyle is very great. The university is not too big, so you don't feel lost. Therefore, you can establish contacts fast. The building of the university are almost all in a row, so you don't have to walk far from one building to another. The best thing of student life is in summer the shipping parties of students on the river Donau.

How much does it cost to live in Passau?

You have to calculate with renting costs about 300 to approximately 500 per month (depending on the size and type of the flat). The cost of living (food etc. ) is about 200-300 Euros additionally per person and month. Have in mind food of supermarkets is relatively cheap in comparison to other countries.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Passau? Is there any advice you can give?

It is a little bit difficult to find accommodations, so I recommend to live in shared flats with other students. But there are some single apartments, too. Searching for a shared flat or a single flat is more easy with the help of 'wg-gesucht.de' or on Facebook, e. g. 'Wohnung frei Passau'.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are various types of Restaurants. You can get Bavarian, Italian, Greek, Asian, Turkish, Indian and others. My favourite dish is "Chili Chicken" at "Chandni".

What places would you recommend visiting in Passau?

Passau is very unique because of its three rivers which flow together at one point. So you have to visit the "Ortsspitze", it's like an island in the centre of the rivers. Another sight is the wonderful Dome of Passau that includes the biggest pipe organ of the world. Furthermore, important sights are "Das Oberhaus", lots of museums and of course the historic old town.

Is it good to eat out in Passau? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There is a mixed offer for eating, the quality of the most restaurants is very good. Especially here you can get very fine Bavarian food for example in beer gardens in summer. I recommend the restaurant "Das Oberhaus". Another personal favourite is "Cafe Kowalski", there you have a wide offer from burgers, salads till escalopes and other.

Is the nightlife good in Passau? Where is good to go?

Unfortunalety, in Passau there isn't a big offer of clubs. But one of the best is "Cubana" and notice the shipping parties in summer as well as private parties of students. There are a lot of bars for going out as well. The best cocktails you get in "Yourneys".
