Why did you choose to go to Oviedo, Spain?

Oviedo is such a beautiful city with an awesome landscape! To go on vacation you always go to the south, but in the north it's so much more beautiful!

The ESN group of Oviedo is awesome, too, there are regulary parties and events and to meet people is easy.

I only didn't like the university, but I think, I only had bad luck choosing the courses. I've heard of many cool courses of other exchange students.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I spent half a year in Spain and got 1200€ from Erasmus+.

What is the student lifestyle like in Oviedo?

The lifestyle is cool, there are many bars and clubs and everything is very near and cheap. There are different organisations to help exchange students in Oviedo and offer a lot of parties, regular food events and social and cultural events.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Oviedo to other students?

I would definitely reccomend the city (but also an umbrella). Probably it would be better to go in summer than in winter. The university is...not the best to choose, but that's only my opinion, I also heard positive opinions about the university of Oviedo.

What is the food like?

There is a lot of meat in the Spanish food. Sometimes it can be difficult as a vegetarian/vegan, but it is definitely possible and you can enjoy the delicious food. I totally recommend the fish! And to try the Cidra is a must!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Oviedo?

I foun my room because a friend has already spent half a year in Oviedo. There are different websites to search for accommodations for example idealista.com. Facebook also can help very well to find a good place. Even getting to Oviedo and search there for a room, is easy too.

How much does it cost to live in Oviedo?

The rent should be around 200-250€ plus the food. Generally the food is cheap in Spain, so it is less than in Germany.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

There is a course of intensive Spanish in the University and you can use a lot of Tandem offers. In general Spanish is a easy language to learn.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Oviedo from your city?

There are many ways to travel to Oviedo. Probably a flight directly to Oviedo is not the cheapest, but you can fly to Santander, León or Madrid and then use the bus (ALSA).

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Oviedo?

Near the cathedral in the city centre there is a long street with bars, clubs and pubs. It's easy to find the best bar.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Oviedo?

I loved "La Competencia", the Pizza is awesome and the "Sangría de Cidra" is best drink ever. Also there is a nice fish restaurant near the town hall. I don't remember the name, but every thursday you get two plates for one - go there with friends, share and try a lot!

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The landscape is awesome so you should get to know the region. I can totally recommend the "Playa de las Catedrales", which is the most beautiful beach, I've ever seen. You also should go to Covadonga and experience stuff like canoeing or rafting. Totally worth it!

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Oviedo in the future?

get an umbrella, and wear it always in your purse - right next to your sunglasses.
