What is it like to live in Örebro? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

We usually say that Örebro is a small "big city" and it really is. Örebro has everything you need and still, you can live with a walk- and cycling distance to everything. Örebro has a beautiful creek going in the middle of the city but is the city is quite windy. However, Örebro has nice restaurants to offer, different activities like golf, kayak/canoe, beach volleyball in the summer and ice-skating and cross-country skiing on wintertime. In the summer, Örebro also offers nice open-air cafés.

What is the student lifestyle like in Örebro?

Fun! Örebro university arranges a good introduction so you get to know the city and new friends. The introductions include both parties and other activities like trips to IKEA and film events. The campus has different places of study, restaurants and also a gym and a club.

How much does it cost to live in Örebro?

Around 5000 SEK (about 500 €) for accommodation, 100 SEK for lunch and 200 SEK for dinner. Alcohol is expensive general in Sweden (a beer from 15 SEK at the shop "Systembolaget" and from 40 SEK on a pub).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Örebro? Is there any advice you can give?

A dorm is easy to get but if you want your own apartment it's more difficult, but for like 6 months I would say it's easy to rent second hand. You can choose to live in a dorm, share an apartment with others or have your own apartment. My advice is to live near Campus, the city or in between.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

If you visit Sweden you have to try Swedish tacos and meatballs. I love many restaurants, you can find burgers, sushi, Italian, Thai, fresh salads or much more!

What places would you recommend visiting in Örebro?

I'd recommend visiting:

  • Oset: a nature reserve where you can take a walk or eat lunch or "fika" (take a coffee with a cake) at "Naturens hus".
  • Frimis, Satin, Sorella or Stora Örebro: take a glass of wine in the sun!
  • Padelcenter: a place to play Paddle tennis, eat lunch or rent a relaxe.

Is it good to eat out in Örebro? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, it is! I'd recommend going to Fratelli for an Italian dinner, to Java for a lunch salad and to Sushi Natu for Örebros best sushi.

Is the nightlife good in Örebro? Where is good to go?

Yes! Kåren at Campus is good and cheap. In the inner city, you have Strömpis, Ritz and Satin and Frimis during summertime.

What advice would you give future students heading to Örebro?

I love Örebro because of its size and because it's beautiful, it has nice restaurants and the University is very good in many ways! Swedish people are also very good at speaking English which will be helpful for you!
