What is it like to live in North Delta? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

North Delta is home to numerous parks and recreational opportunities. Alongside North Delta is Burns Bog, the largest raised peat urban bog in North America, and Watershed Park which provides walking and biking trails, home to many artesian aquifers. Besides this, North Delta is home to a large amount of green-space. North Delta has a population of over 60,000.
North Delta borders Surrey on the east side by Scott Road (or 120th Street), and on the north side by 96th Avenue and the Fraser River. To the west across the river is Annacis Island and Richmond, accessible via the Alex Fraser Bridge. Burns Bog is to the west, bordered by Highway 91.
North Delta is home to three recreational complexes: the recently renovated state of the art Sungod Recreation Centre, which houses both a swimming pool and an indoor ice rink; the Great Pacific Forum ice arena at the base of the Alex Fraser Bridge; and North Delta's oldest sports complex, the North Delta Recreational Centre, which consists of an ice rink, 6 curling sheets, and an outdoor pool. Lying adjacent to the North Delta Recreational Centre is a small kids' camp, a large softball park, and skateboard park.
North Delta is home to Tim Hortons coffee shop. It is also home to the first Krispy Kreme doughnut shop in British Columbia and currently the only Canadian store west of Mississauga. Other businesses found in North Delta include McDonald's, Burger King, COBS Bread, Safeway, Save-on-Foods, Target, Superstore, Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut, London Drugs, Esquire's Coffee, White Spot and Freshslice to name a few.

North Delta's major shopping centres are Scottsdale Centre, Scott 72 Centre, Delta Shoppers Mall and Kennedy Heights.

What is the student lifestyle like in North Delta?

During the spring and summer students can spend may hours enjoying themselves along the trails around North Delta. Hiking, cycling, jogging, are some of the popular past times here. Young people have easy access to recreation & entertainment, with cinemas, shopping, restaurants, etc located within a reasonable distance from one an other.
Beautiful tree lined streets make walking very pleasant around the residential areas of North Delta.

How much does it cost to live in North Delta?

A fully furnished room with attached bath/washroom may cost approximately $500 -$600 per month. There are many reasonably priced stores and restaurants around North Delta with a good mix of products.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in North Delta? Is there any advice you can give?

North Delta is reasonably priced and accommodation is plentiful close to schools, recreation centers, public transport, shops, etc. This makes living in North Delta attractive to students.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There is an amazing array of restaurants in North Delta and the neighboring city of Surrey. From Canadian Westcoast, Fijian, East Indian, Afghan, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Sri Lankan, American, Bengali, Pakistani, Greek, Italian - you name it. You are sure find one you like.
My favorite hidden gem is the Bengali Grill in neighboring Surrey. The fish pakora is to die for. The best I have ever had. And the price is amazingly low.

What places would you recommend visiting in North Delta?

North Delta is home to many attractions. Visit Reifel Bird Sanctuary for year round bird viewing, Delta Museum, Watershed Park, Ladner Village, Burns Bog, Delta Nature Reserve are some of the picturesque places to visit.

Is it good to eat out in North Delta? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are many quaint restaurants in North Delta, from upscale to quaint to budget. There are many fusion bistros, ethnic reastaurants, social houses, pubs, cafes, coffee shops in and around North Delta. My favorite is a well established tea house in Sunshine Village, along Scott Road, serving afternoon high tea in typical English fashion. The scones, cream and strawberry jam is not to be missed along with a steaming cup of Ceylon Tea! While there try other mouth watering snacks and desserts made fresh on the premises.

Is the nightlife good in North Delta? Where is good to go?

There aren't many nightclubs in North Delta. For nightlife head to Vancouver, which is a short 30 to 40 min drive away

What advice would you give future students heading to North Delta?

There are many great schools in North Delta and neighboring Surrey. You will also find many English Language schools and the Kwantlen University College in close proximity to North Delta. Many students enjoy living in North Delta and commute to Simon Fraser University (SFU) or other places of education with out difficulty.
There is also many good libraries in and around North Delta for students to use.
