What is it like to live in Mytilini? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Mytilene is the capital of Lesvos island. A small city with interesting history and architecture. As a Greek island, from spring to early autumn, you have the opportunity to explore the island. For sure I recommend it for a student. It is a place full of students and easygoing citizens as well.

What is the student lifestyle like in Mytilini?

There are lots of students there, most of them are really cool. There are some parties taking place and everybody is welcome to join them. You can drink a beer in alternative bars or at bars with Greek music.

How much does it cost to live in Mytilini?

Actually it depends on the way you choose to live. An apartment at the city centre costs 190-300 euros per month while the bills are not included (they will be from 30-70 euros per month). The night life is not too expensive (a beer costs about 2-3 euros) while you can have a full meal with 5 euros.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Mytilini? Is there any advice you can give?

Depends. The best period to look for accommodation is at the end of semesters, where students leave the island (February, end of June, End of September-October). There are some online advertisements, but for me, the best option is to visit the city for some days, and have a look at the yellow advertisements at electricity stills.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are lots of options for Mediterranean and international cuisines. My favorite dishes are: Pita me kopsidi (pie with pork meat) from Gyromania, pancakes from Chez Moi.

What places would you recommend visiting in Mytilini?

The atmosphere in the city is really nice. Explore the city centre and get the opportunity to get lost in its narrow streets. You can organize a trip to Ayvalik (Turkey) and for sure visit the following villages in the island: Molyvos, Eressos, Agiasos

Chez moi (for cafe, snacks, pancakes and donuts), Gyromania (for Greek souvlaki and pita), Aroma Vynis for 5 euro (for student) dishes, Bobiras for "small plates", Jimmys o xontros (Greek Taverna).

Is the nightlife good in Mytilini? Where is good to go?

You can party whenever and wherever you want. Feel free to organize your own party at the streets (it is a place called "skalakia" find it and fell free to communicate with everybody who is there). Visit Mousiko kafeneio, Bobiras, Lazy fish, Barcode and Home. For party with Greek music, you can go to a bar at the waterfront (Monkey and Marush)

What advice would you give future students heading to Mytilini?

Live it or leave it. Enjoy your student life there guys!
