Experience in University of Mumbai, India by purvi

Generally, what is University of Mumbai like?

University of Mumbai especially the College of Architecture is a nice campus and its an introduction to a whole new culture......as an Indian university would be very different in terms of educational methods and concepts.
Indian students generally take education a bit too seriously and so the students must be mentally prepared for some serious education.

What are the facilities like?

Hostels are provided for which the student pays separately. So lodging boarding would be covered by the student himself.
And there are some particular stationery shops where the students would get discount.
Overall it would be a cheaper country than most Europeans universities

What are the tutors like?

Generally Tutors are professionals from that Industry .....so they have practical experience of the design and methods of production or for architecture ....site experience.
But one must take care that in Mumbai things work differently than in European countries.
For example generally it would make more sense to work in India after the education...if possible with the tutor.....as the experience is so complete.....the designer has to design as also make working drawings and execute the project completely so the process id complete.

Are the lessons easy in University of Mumbai?

Well yes I would not call them complicated but may be the student needs to put in more hours of work.

Does the University organize activities; what are they like?

Yes there are often college get togethers with different activity ....like we have rock festivals....educational festivals......elocution festivals etc......

Do you think the teaching is of a high quality?

I think it is quite complete as far as educating a student is concerned.

Are there any stories you can share?

India is a colourful country as are its people and a student must be prepared to visit his friends and their families .....generally a foreign student would be treated like a part of the friends family.

If a student is lucky the family would kill you with food but remember all this is sheer LOVE for a different culture.

The friends will try to show you all aspects of India and apart from the education I can only say studying here would be a Life's Lesson and nothing less!!!!
