Today, a rainy and lazy Sunday, I went to one of the East Market Milano event. This is actually a flea market, taking place in a warehouse in Milan. This event is quite popular here among the young people and I thought about going before but I couldn't, and today I finally had the chance to go. This is something to see at least once if you do an Erasmus in Milan!

I have talked about the flea market in Navigli in another article (that you can read by clicking here if you want), but this one is a little different.

This market has a different concept and is kind of an “all-inclusive” flea market: you can go there to walk around, shop vintage things of all kinds, but also eat and drink as there are many stalls that offer fries, beer and many other possibilities of food and drinks. You can basically spend the whole day there without any problem, or meet up with friends. There is such a friendly atmosphere there that I feel like this would be a great idea to hang out on a Sunday!

The market takes place in a big warehouse, so there’s no problem when it rains (like it did today). The atmosphere there doesn’t feel so “Italian”, first because of the smell of all food and drinks, such as fries and beer, that are not really the Italian type, but also because of all the stalls with vintage objects that give it more of an English atmosphere (in my opinion) and that I really like. The music (which was really really loud this afternoon since there are some DJs playing there near the entrance), also adds up to this.

You can find many things there, almost anything you could be looking for, as long as it's vintage: sneakers, sunglasses, denim clothes, books, lamps, jewelry… I think this is a really good flea market and if you’re looking for vintage, old or second-hand things, you will most likely find them there. Like this huge and beautiful jukebox in the following picture for example. I also saw a huge map of Europe that I really liked, but you need to have quite some space to buy these things.

Even if the warehouse is a little far from the center of Milan, you can get close to it with the green metro line (then you will have to walk a little to get there). I don’t think there is much happening in this part of the city on regular days, so this market brings a lot of people there.

The East Market doesn’t take place on a regular basis, so you always have to check their website or Facebook page to see when the next edition will be. There’s usually at least one event each month, sometimes two. They also sometimes have themes, like “Christmas edition” or “Spring edition”, like today. The stallholders can be either professionals or individuals that just want to sell things, but they are automatically selected by the team of East Market so you can be sure that everything you will find will be of good quality.

This market is quite trendy and a must-see for young people in Milan! If you want to go, I suggest going in the morning because it gets quite busy in the afternoon. I went at around 5 pm today and it was completely full of people. So, if you really want to take your time and be able to see the stalls, go early! The market is usually open from 10 in the morning until 9 pm.
