Experience in Melbourne, Australia by Marco
What is it like to live in Melbourne? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Life in Melbourne is awesome. It's in Australia but it is a "European" city (buildings, streets, lot of people from Europe). Everybody is friendly and you can go out every day and meet new people. Starting a conversation with someone who you never met is very easy.
What is the student lifestyle like in Melbourne?
There are a lot of parties every week but it's very expensive to go out 3-4 times per week (10 dollars for a beer). This is the main reason why nobody makes too many parties. But life is different, every student considers Australia like "another world" when you are here it is very easy not think about the problems you have in your country.
How much does it cost to live in Melbourne?
Between 200-250 dollars per week for the rent, 100 dollars for food and if you go out depends on you.
1 dollar is like 0, 70 €.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Melbourne? Is there any advice you can give?
Not really, there is a lot of web site for that.
What is the food like? What are your favorite dishes?
The food is very similar to Europe, but meat is much better here.
What places would you recommend visiting in Melbourne?
Great ocean road is the best visiting point around, but there are a lot of things to visit and usually, everybody visits everything because Australia is very far and probably it will be the first and the last time you'll be there.
Is it good to eat out in Melbourne? Can you tell us your favorite spots?
It's good but it's very expensive to eat out (25-30 dollar per meal).
Is the nightlife good in Melbourne? Where is good to go?
Very good, there is party every day and every where in the city.
What advice would you give future students heading to Melbourne?
Save money and go!
