Generally, what is the University College of Mälardalen like?

It is a modern University, with focus on innovation and networking between students and companies around the Mälardalen region. The University is located in the two cities: Eskilstuna and Västerås and there are free buses between these. The environment is very opened and social both between teachers and students (not strict as in many european contries).

What are the facilities like?

The facilities differ from the two cities, but in overall it is modern buildings with large space. there are cafeterias for lunch or just to buy snacks. There are also lunchrooms with microwawes where you can warm your own food (most common among swedish students). Most of the classrooms has lots of space and the teaching is modern. In Eskilstuna the University is located in three main buildings in the centre of the city. In Västerås the University is more of a campus 10 min from the city centre.

What are the tutors like?

Most of the teachers are very social and nice and you will have good relationships. In Sweden we address the teachers by their first name which gives a more personal relationship. The teachers expect you to take a lot of own resposibility in your studies, and being on time is important.

Are the lessons easy in the University of Mälardalen?

Sweden has one of the best educations in Europe, if the studies are easy depends on you and on the teacher. Overall no it is not high school, you should know you have to put a lot of work into the studies, especially in projects together with swedish students.

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

The first two weeks of school start there are activities every day for the new students such as fun sports competitions and parties. There are always "buddies" to help you to adapt. The buddies are not indvidual, They are there for the whole class but they will help you in any trouble and you will have lots of fun together. Mälardalen University is not the common campus University in Sweden which means there are less activities than in the bigger Universities, however you can do a lot of stuff with your friends. Every faculty or program has a student association (often one or more of your buddies are involved) and they organize different activities during the education such as bowling, trips such as skiing, partycruise, dinners among others.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

Yes I consider Mälardalen University studies being of very high quality.

Are there any stories you can share?

Västerås is Swedens 4th biggest city and therefore the partylife maybe better than in Eskilstuna. However the both cities offer a lot of things and they have a great location around the Mälardalen region, very close to other cities such as Stockholm for example.
