Experience in Linköping, Sweden
What is it like to live in Linköping? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
For a student I would definitely recommend Linköping.
How much does it cost to live in Linköping?
For a student it could be all from 300€ to 550€ depending on how you want to live. The cheapest way is to live in a student hall, you have your room and a bathroom and a shared kitchen with maybe seven other students.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Linköping? Is there any advice you can give?
Yes it´s very hard. You can collect point in different accommodations company. You have to find which company is in what city and then just sign up. I don´t really know but say that you get 2000 points after a year and you need 2500 points to get first in line for an apartment, you just have to wait. I think it´s easier for exchange students.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food in Sweden is kind of boring so that´s probably why we adapted dishes from other countries. I definitely like the Swedish version of "Tacos", a lot of people eat it on Fridays for some reason.
What places would you recommend visiting in Linköping?
In the summer I would recommend a small "lake" outside the city. It takes maybe 20 minutes by car, very wholesome, I think it's located in "Kolbyttemon". A viewpoint near "Majelden", from there you can see the whole city. I think that the church "Domkyrkan" is worth a visit, also in the city there´s a river and you can take a walk around it, kinda nice in the summer. In the winter I recommend finding your favorite café.
Is it good to eat out in Linköping? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
I haven´t been eating out a lot in Linköping. But there´s everything from thai, china, japanese, american, "classic swedish", greek, healthy, vegetarian restaurants. Think my favorit is "Ghingis", it´s a restaurant with asian food.
Is the nightlife good in Linköping? Where is good to go?
There is only one street in Linköping where you can party and it´s called "Ågatan". Here you have all clubs and bars. Normally it´s free entrance to the clubs before 23. 00 if you are on a list and after that time it costs around 10€. "Platens" and "ågatan bar och café" are the places where I´ve been hanging out the most.
What advice would you give future students heading to Linköping?
Get active in all the diffent "kårer", student community always have stuff going on if you´re active there you will probaly have a good time! And Sweden have spring, summer, fall and winter, in the winter it gets cold, sometimes -15 so be prepared.
