Erasmus Experience in Linköping, Sweden by Kamile
Why did you choose to go to Linköping, Sweden?
Because they offered good and interesting study programs. No problem with English, because almost everyone speaks English. It is one of best universities.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship was 500 euros/month. I needed about 150 euro/month to pay just for accommodation and food and other important things.
If you want to party more or travel, you will need more money.
What is the student lifestyle like in Linköping?
You need to work quite a lot, but it's possible to have free weeks and travel a little.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Linköping to other students?
Yes, because it's interesting to live that kind of experience. The university is very nice, there is everything. You may need to study and to do some activities in your free time, or if you have hobbies that require special equipment, it's very possible that if you talk to someone they will let you use it at the university.
What is the food like?
It's nothing special, you can find almost everything in food stores. Traditional food is quite strange it is like a salted salmon sandwich with honey sauce.
Oh, they have very good bread and quite cheap Nutella!
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Linköping?
Last year there were too many students, so the university didn't give us accommodation and we had to rent a house (about 6 km from university), it cost us 3500 SEK per person every month, there were four of us. And first week, we stayed at an "emergency accommodation" which cost 100 SEK per day.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
There are language courses, I didn't take them, but my friends did, so after a few months they learnt some basic words.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Linköping?
There is one cheap pub called "The Pub", it's a quite alcoholic pub, but very nice.
But in general, there are no cheap places, so it is better to have party in someone's house.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The cathedral.
