Erasmus experience in Liberec, Czech Republic

Why did you choose to go to Liberec, Czech Republic?

Because I didn't have many options.

How long does the grant last? How much money do you get for help?

5 months grant - 400*5=2000 Euro.

How is the student life in Liberec?

It is inestimable for an Erasmus student. The students are more sociable than in Turkey.

Do you recommend Liberec and its universities to other student?

Absolutely. You may not like it because of its cold weather, but it is the same in any other European country.

How's the country's food?

I do not know any national food, but you can always cook in your dorm. Also fast-foods are another option.

How did you find accommodation?

Dorm life is really good, satisfying. Dormitories are flats with 2-3 rooms. They have a WC and a small kitchen. We were 5 people in one flat. As long as you are in harmony with your flatmates, your home is a good place to stay.

How are the accommodation prices? And the prices in general?

Accommodation is about 100Euro=2400Kr. Your grant should be enough to afford your living costs (400 euro for 1 month), foods and partying included.

Was it easy to handle the language? Were there any language courses at the University?

Two Czech students who are doing their Master's degree, give Czech classes for free. However, I think it is enough if you speak English, even though not everyone speaks English there. But I recommend you learn the language. There are around 10 million Czech. If you enjoy learning languages like me, I recommend you sign up for language classes. You will be able to communicate in 5 months. And it is good for you (for example, people in the clubs don't speak English).

What is the easiest and cheapest way to go from your city to Liberec?

Turkish Airlines, of course. What? The cheapest way? You always have to pay for it, man. You can also use the bus company Eurolines, around 80-90 euro (at least that's what they told me).

Where would you recommend for a night out in Liberec?

There are 8 bars and clubs around the dorms. My favorite ones are "S Club" and "Zanzibar". There is "Hut" club 15 min walking. It is recommended to go twice a week. You are going to miss that place.

Which restaurants do you recommend in Liberec?

There is a Doner restaurant in the main square, don't miss that place! I recommend chicken and their amazing sauce, but they also have pork. There is also a good restaurant opposite the museum. You should try it at least once, because you it is too expensive to go there very often. You can also eat at the university canteen.

What are the must-see places?

You can go skiing. Also, there is a ZOO with Liberec Tigers.

Do you have any advice you'd like to give future students in Liberec?

I think my post above is enough. You can write me a message if you have any question. In addition, I had my best vacation in Liberec. If you are still a bit hazy about going there or not, do not hesitate, choose Czech Republic. Czech people are very nice relaxed. Entertainment is cheap! Let's go to Liberec!

Go now.
