What is it like to live in Leeds? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Leeds is a great city to live in, I absolutely love it and would thoroughly recommend it! It is a city with lots of things to do but isn’t overwhelming or unfriendly.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leeds?

Lots of fun! Leeds is a student city with several universities so you fit in very well.

How much does it cost to live in Leeds?

As a student, rent might be between around £80 and £150 per week depending where you live and the type of accommodation/house. Other spending on groceries etc also adds up but overall costs vary depending on the person.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Leeds? Is there any advice you can give?

It’s not really difficult no. If you are living in university accommodation it may be harder to find a room as it tends to be first year students who live there. There are lots of other options though including private flats or houses shared with others. I loved living in a house with my friends. My advice would be to make sure to consider lots of houses to work out what you like and don’t like. Also make sure if you’re living with other people that you can communicate well and get along with them as there may be times where you disagree.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Leeds isn’t really known for being a foodie city, but there are plenty of good places to eat out. Trinity Kitchen is a favourite of mine, but there lots of other independent places, as well as chain restaurants so you are spoiled for choice.

What places would you recommend visiting in Leeds?

The Corn Exchange and the City Markets. Leeds Dock/Granary Wharf area is also worth visiting as you can walk along the canal from it. Hopping on a bus and heading to Roundhay Park is also a great thing to do.

Is it good to eat out in Leeds? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes great! As I mentioned earlier, Trinity Kitchen is lovely and has loads of choice! I am also a bit addicted to MOD Pizza.

Is the nightlife good in Leeds? Where is good to go?

Nightlife is great, even if like me you’re not a huge party animal! I love to go to Call Lane and have drinks and a dance in the bars down there. For club nights though, Hifi is probably my favourite place. There is definitely a night out for everyone in Leeds though.

What advice would you give future students heading to Leeds?

Make the most of the city, but head out as well! It doesn’t take long or cost much to get out into the countryside or to head to other places nearby using public transport.
