Experience in Lecce, Italy by Jules
What is it like to live in Lecce? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
We have been looking for a house all over Italy. But Lecce was love at first sight.
It is a jewel of baroque architecture , near one of the most beautiful shores of Italy ( and this country has many) , it is not to big nor to small , thanks to the university and to Erasmus it had a very lively city center, where the sun is never far away, where the food is great and the prices reasonable. If you like Italy, you will love Lecce.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lecce?
Thanks to the great climate, young people meet in the streets , on the terraces of the wine bars or in stylish restaurants
How much does it cost to live in Lecce?
Less then in any other Italian city , half as expensive as Milan or Rome.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lecce? Is there any advice you can give?
I don't have any experience on that matter , because I bought my house.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Simple as Italian food should be. Fresh top quality ingredients, e basta.
Any pasta will do , with this great negro amaro wine.
What places would you recommend visiting in Lecce?
The centro storico is an open air museum. The piazza Duomo at night is overwhelming, but strolling around the narrow streets is a must. Best time is during the passegiata, early evening.
Is it good to eat out in Lecce? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Doppio Zero is my favourite, but it is very difficult to find a place where you eat badly.
What advice would you give future students heading to Lecce?
Don't forget your swimming suit and learn Italian.
