Experience at Loughborough University, United Kingdom
Generally, what is Loughborough University like?
The campus at Loughborough University is huge. There is everything you need from computer labs, small shops for grocery shopping or party opportunities. You feel more than welcome on the first days of studying and there are a lot of international students as well, especially Erasmus and master students.
What are the facilities like?
The facilities are divided into the different topics you are able to study at Loughborough. So are nearly all engineering courses in the Wolfson Schoool which is located at a different area on campus than the facilities for studying sport and management. There are a lot of computer labs available (some of them 24/7) and the library is open 24/7 during the exam periods.
What are the tutors like?
The tutors are friendly and really helpful. It is always possible to make contact via email and set a date for a personal meeting if necessary.
Are the lessons easy in Loughborough University?
I am studying a Masters degree in engineering and the courses are not really easy to pass, but they are more than fair! You should make sure that you understand everything to be able to answer questions in the exams.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
If you studying at Loughborough University you have a lot of possibilities besides studying. Due to the fact, that the Loughborough University has a great offer of sports, there are a lot of sport activities. If you play a sport already, you can try to get into one of the teams and play for the University. If you don't, there is a program called "My Lifestyle" where you can try out different sports. Besides the great opportunities of playing sport there are two different gyms on campus.
If you want to do something else than sports, there are a lot of societies you could join. These societies are organising events or meet and greets. For example there is the Harry Potter Society, the PhotoSoc and even a society for pole dancing.
The LSU (Loughborough Student Union) is organising trips to different cities and places around the UK which are more than recommended and not expensive at all!
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
The quality of teaching is really good. We had one subject for two weeks and before the start of the next module, we got a booklet with all the information which are necessary to pass the course and which the presentations of the tutors are about. So you had the opportunity to prepare the subject before the lectures.
Are there any stories you can share?
There are a lot of stories of course, but you should write your own! I can recommend living on campus, but it is a bit more expensive than in the city centre. The city centre is 10 minutes walking and the two biggest supermarkets are in the same distance. I would recommend Tesco over Sainsburys because it is less expensive and they have a lot of offers available.
If you need a lot of groceries you can order your food online on Tesco as well :)
