Sun, Beach and Sea in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria
Sun, Beach, and Sea in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria
It started for me in September 2016. An Erasmus semester in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. I was really happy as I can't stand the winter in cold Hannover. For the first two weeks I had to stay in a Airbnb, which isn't tricky as there is a range of selection.
The city is awesome and I would go back there again and again. If you live in the right district, (Mesa y Lopez) you are in the middle of the city and at the same time, only a few minutes walk to the longest beach in the city (Las Canteras). The beach is beautiful :) You can walk along the promenade for over an hour. The weather in Gran Canaria is very nice. It's at least not too hot in the winter as well but sometimes there are storms but watching the sea is impressive.
The most beautiful places
There are so many beautiful places. I especially liked it in Aguimes. But the Maspalomas Dunes has also became one of my favourite places. With a combined ticket you can get there cheaply by the bus within an hour. The prerequisite is that you buy the single and return ticket together at the machine before you start your journey.
The Bar Bioloco was my second home there. The owners are italian and very very kind. I often sat on the comfy sofa, ordered a tea and talked with them. The clocks tick a little slower here. When someone visited me, we often rented a car. I recommend this to everyone. It is so cheap here and you can see so much.
It is particularly beautiful in Puerto de las Nieves, when the sun sinks into the sea on an evening and you're eating something tasty at the harbour. This is also where the big ferry departs from- sometimes impressive to look at. In Las Palmas itself, you should definitely not forget the Triana and Vegueta neighbourhoods. You should at least take a stroll there one day and drive up the Santa Anna Tower. On my next visit I want to do a lot of hiking and admire Tejeda and Artenara, it's also supposed to be especially beautiful there too.
A visit to the island is always worthwhile, it has so many assets and I would always go back.
