Experience in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain), by Beatrice
What is it like to live in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Las Palmas is a wonderful city, it is full of well-groomed green spots, nice shops and people of costume and traditions. Las Canteras beach is a long strip of light-coloured sand that stretches for all the northern coast ending up on one side in a beach of rocks (el Confital) and on the other side, there is a mall and a theatre. There is so much more to see here, take your time and discover all its beauties!
What is the student lifestyle like in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?
I don't know, I'm not a student.
How much does it cost to live in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Living here is quite cheap, coming from Italy I spend half the average spent over there.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria? Is there any advice you can give?
It's easy to find rooms in "pisos compartidos" here, just make sure you go see them first, being a city full of students they often rise the prices for very small rooms and cleanliness is not an option around here. Use websites like: pisocompartido, milanuncios.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is good around here, being Italian there are a lot of things that I wish were tastier but I have to say that it has the typical mediterranean cooking with an arabic twist.
What places would you recommend visiting in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?
El Confital if you like raw nature, volcanic rocks and watching people surfing.
(Confital)
Canteras beach for a nice walk and a warm stay under the sun.
Vegueta and Triana for its shopping, night life and historical buildings.
Is it good to eat out in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Casa Camilo is definitely the one I like the most, fresh fish from the sea that you can choose right in front of you weighted and then cooked as you please. All the spartan looking places you see have their own reason to be, be adventurous and find out!
Is the nightlife good in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria? Where is good to go?
Triana Thursday evenings with beer and tapa at 2 Euros. The port area is full of discos and bar where you can enjoy good music and loads of students.
(Triana)
What advice would you give future students heading to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?
Don't stop at the first bump in the road!
