Why did you choose to go to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain?

Because I love Spain, travelling, meet new people from all over the world. Here there is always great weather and the possibility to sightseeing another islands for less cost.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I've been there from 1. 2. 2012 to the 20. 06. 2012, I received around 430€/month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

It is amazing! There are a lot of parties, the possibilitie to sightseeing the island, a lot of organized days by some students organizations such as a day in the nature, parachuting, snorkling, surfing, boats parties, sports evenings (either in the beach or the sport zone).

Would you recommend the city and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to other students?

What is the food like?

The food it's very tasty. There are a lot of traditional dishes like ropa vieja, papas arrugadas con mojo, chorizos, quesos, ron miel.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

Yes, it was difficult. We made a lot of phone calls and spent a long time trying to find our flat.

How much does it cost to live in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

It depends on you, you cand find a room/flat (shared with friends) for 150-300€, food costs are usually around 100-150€ monthly, bus tickets is 10€ a week and sometimes 10€ every 2 weeks, it depends on how many times you go to university, parties, etc. It's very hard to tell an exact amount, but I reccomend drinking cuba litro (3-6€).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Yes, there are. You will have to take a test to check your language knowledge. It is not so difficult if you speak to a lot of foreigners, but when if you only spend your time with people from your country, it will be a little hard.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from your city?

From my city there's a bus to go to Berlin Schönefeld for 15€. From there, the best option, which includes a big luggage (20-23kg), is to take Condor Airlines, we could find tickets from 100-150€ one way.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

La Sal, they have a 3x1 offer only for students.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

Sakura VI in San Telmo and Monte Libano in Las Canteras beach.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The Vegueta district and Casa de Colón.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the future?

Bring your good mood, smile every single day, use all of your time there as best as you can, meet new people and stay positive!
