Why did you choose to go to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain?

I wanted to study Translation and Interpreting and other universities only offered pure languages.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I spent a full academic year there and received an Erasmus grant.

What is the student lifestyle like in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

My social life was one of the best aspects of my year abroad. Nights out are very cheap and there's always something to do. The Canarians are so friendly and you will have no shortage of opportunities to speak Spanish.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to other students?

Definitely! My Spanish improved so much and I couldn't think of a nicer place to study. The administration could have been handled a lot better but the classes were really useful.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

I had a lot of trouble finding a flat at first but the International Relations office at the university was very helpful and found me a flat. Don't reserve one before arriving as you may be disappointed when it differs from the pictures.

How much does it cost to live in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

Compared to the UK it is really cheap. Rent was roughly 250 euros but transport, eating out and other activities were very reasonably priced.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It was a struggle at first but you will be placed in a Spanish class based on your ability when you arrive to help you improve.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from your city?

Flights from Belfast or Dublin to Las Palmas.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?

There are so many clubs and bars to choose from so try them all! Make sure you go to Vegueta on a Thursday night as you can get cheap tapas and wine.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the future?

The best option is definitely to adopt a laid back attitude and know that it will all work out in the end and in the mean time enjoy the amazing weather and make as many friends as possible!
