What is it like to live in Lancaster? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Lancaster is an old English town with lots of historical building (mainly the Lancaster Castle) with a modern high street, lots of cafes, restaurants and bars/pubs.

What is the student lifestyle like in Lancaster?

Good, lots of bars and pubs to drink in, the student union nightclub Sugarhouse is not to be missed with Wednesday nights being the best night to go. Many students eat out on campus, the Sultans Experience is a must to go.

How much does it cost to live in Lancaster?

It’s the cheapest for student accommodation in the UK. For food/grocery shops, there’s a range of low cost to high cost supermarkets (from Lidl/Aldi to Booths or Sainsbury’s etc.)
Meals out are relatively cheap depending on the restaurant.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lancaster? Is there any advice you can give?

No if you look at for accommodation around October/November when most listing are posted. You are best to go through the Lancaster University Housing recommendations, their office is on campus but they also have a website. They assure accommodation is up to standards and certify the housing they advertise themselves

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Range of restaurants hosting different foods from around the world, having a large Asian presences on campus, they’re are Asian supermarkets and restaurants. Local English pubs have traditional English foods. My favourite dishes are steal and ale pies with mash potato and vegetables.

What places would you recommend visiting in Lancaster?

Williamson Park (gorgeous nature park with woodland areas, large monument at the centre with a cafe and small zoo), lancaster castle (historical site, recommend a tour inside).

Is it good to eat out in Lancaster? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, lots of restaurants varying in different foods. Definitely recommend Cafe Dolce for lunch food and coffees etc. Wetherspoons (Sir Richard Owen) for cheap English food and drinks.

Is the nightlife good in Lancaster? Where is good to go?

Sugarhouse is the student union night club! This is a must for every student to have the sugarhouse experience. There is also another nightclub called Glow which I personally don’t recommend but many students still go. Lots of bars and pubs that welcome students. Tipple is the cutest cocktail bar. Lots of students eat out also.

What advice would you give future students heading to Lancaster?

Definitely explore the city and well as every inch campus, there’s a lot to explore for a small city. Try things like new foods and places. OH! Also it rains an awful lot so you must have an umbrella or raincoat ready ;)
