How was the student culture & ambience of Kavala?

Excellent if you were motivated to party, and students were very welcoming on the condition that you were willing to play the game.

Would you recommend the city and the university of Kavala to other students?

Yes.

How is the food in the country?

The country's food in general is very good but in the university restaurant it's very basic and the quality is mediocre.

How did you find your housing?

University residences were in very good condition, and rooms were reserved for Erasmus students at the university.

How are rent prices? And prices in general?

100€ per month and per person for about 10m² to share with 2. It's probably best to rent a room in a shared flat with at least 4 people for comfort. In the end, it will probably cost the same, but it will be more difficult to enjoy the student life of the residences and make new acquaintances.

How is learning the language? Have you had language courses organised by the university?

The Greek courses are given by the university in order to familiarize students with the language, 2 sessions of about 2 hours.

What is the cheapest way to get to Kavala from your city?

Certainly by plane. A trip with 4 people by car can be interesting because the university is not in the city center, and bus trips are expensive in the end because of the price of fuel.

What places would you recommend to party in Kavala?

The student's rooms on campus, the roof of the residence for barbecue, the clubs in the city center (Factory, Aqua, Motel... ), the beach...

And for eating in Kavala? What are your favorite places?

Economically, order gyros and have them delivered to the room, and even more economically the university restaurant (60€ a month for lunch and dinner 7 days a week, plus free breakfast).

All the restaurants in town offer good dishes.

And what cultural spots do you recommend?

We did a tour of the Peloponnese and visited just about everything (all the sites are free with a Greek student card, as with a student card from any EU country).

Ascending Mount Olympus for the courageous (exceptional).

The Chaldiki when the weather is nice.

Thassos (island in front of Kavala, 8€ round trip with student card).

Hiking in the surrounding mountains and hills.

Crete to finish the journey.

Do you have any advice for future students going to Kavala?

Kavala does not take in a very large group of Erasmus students, approximately 15-20, but this is ideal to create links.

Don't have high hopes with the level of study; it's extremely low (but this is not the purpose of an Erasmus trip).

Don't judge the situation when you arrive. The campus resembles a ghetto and university housing is extremely limited. Most students fair well. There are toilets and showers on the landing, and not a lot of space to cook.
