Experience in Kazakh-American University, Kazakhstan by Diana
Generally, what is Kazakh-American University like?
A small, half-private half-public university combined with college students, who are studying separately from our students but in the same building. Everyone is really understanding, lectures are interesting. Our university in incorporated with another university(Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering) so sometimes we may have general subjects together in our or their campus. The distance between them is about 5min. walk by feet. We have our cafeteria outside, in the dorm and in the university as well. Not many majors, but most popular are Economics and International relations.
What are the facilities like?
There are a lot of different activities, starting from political club to the club of stand-up comedy artists.
What are the tutors like?
Tutors are really helpful and understanding. For some of my subjects we've got one Italian teacher, whose teaching methods are quite different comparing to our teachers.
Are the lessons easy in Kazakh-American University?
Depending on student's desire to study and depending on a major. As I'm studying International relations, it's quite difficult but really exciting and interesting to learn a lot of different things from different aspects such as PR, Marketing or languages. As for final exams, we have tests of multiple choice depending on the amount of hours you have of a subject during a week. For example, if I have 4 hours of Public relations during the week, you are given 480 questions to learn (or not given, depending on a teacher) and during exam you will have 40 minutes and 40 questions. If it's a language exam, then it also contains writing an essay and/or speaking exam.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
Going out for hiking in mountanious area, ice skating, parties or conferences where we invite other universities to participate. We also have Model of United Nations twice a year, one is for our students and second one is a city-level, so students from different universities can participate.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
I think there is. It increases every single year since we have also new teachers from different countries like Italy, UK, Ukraine etc.
Are there any stories you can share?
Dorm is free and international students are also provided with free dorm.
