Karaman City
Karaman is one of the central states of Anatolia, bordered to the west and north by Konya, to the south by Mersin and to the southwest by Antalya. The city is located at an altitude of more than a thousand meters, so we find its climate somewhat continental it is very hot in summer and contrast in winter where the freezing cold and rainy snow.
There were many religious and literary figures who influenced Turkish culture, such as Yunus Emre, Jalaluddin Rumi and Sheikh Edebali.
1- Aktekke Cami Mosque
Located in the center of Karaman city, it was established in 1370 by Alaeddin Bey, one of Karamanoglu's princes in memory of Mümine Hatun. The mosque contains about 21 shrines, including the shrine of Ms. "Mümine Hatun". The mosque is also famous for its vegetal motifs that attract attention.
2- Incesu Cave
This cave is located 9 km from the village of Tas Kale in the town of Karaman. It is 1,356 meters long and is characterized by the beauty of its stalagmites and stunning natural descents.
3- Zeyve Market
It is located in the city of Ermenek in the state of Karaman. It dates back nearly 600 years and is still preserving its popular habits so far. It sells various kinds of fresh and local fruits and vegetables, as well as hand-made products made by the people of the city. The market is surrounded by the ancient dellab trees, which are abundant in it.
4 - Manazan caves
It is located 40 km from Karaman city center and is located in the village of Tas Kale. When you visit the area you will feel at first glance that in the Stone Age, if you look from afar you will see a big rock with a lot of holes. The caves date back to the Byzantine era.
5- Karaman Museum
It is located in the center of Karaman city, just behind the famous Hatuniye Medresesi Khatuni School, and exhibits many monuments dating back to previous civilizations and peoples.
6- Tartan house
Its privileged location in the center of the city has made it easy to access, and is located in the neighborhood "Topucak" and specifically on the street "Tartan". The exhibition contains objects and embodiments of the culture and history of the state of Karaman, and consists of two floors: the lower contain kitchen and warehouse supplies and sections used by man in his daily life, while the upper floor contains the living room and bedrooms.
7- Madenşehir Ören yeri
Located north of Karaman, some 37 kilometers from its center, it contains many archaeological remains such as tombs and churches dating back to the Byzantine era, which is approximately 2500 years old.It is located at the entrance of the archaeological church “Binbir” built about 500 years ago.
8- Hurrem Dayı House
It is located in the Koçak Dede district of Karaman. Created 300 years ago, it is still preserving its durability and splendor, and is a clear demonstration of the beauty and art of Ottoman architecture. It was chosen as the most beautiful Turkish heritage houses.
9- Ermenek Castle
It is one of the first castles built during the reign of Karamanoglu, and is located in the city of Ermenek. Built on a high rock, you can climb to the top with a 72-degree staircase. Formerly used as a prison, the famous Turkish traveler "Oliya Calabi" was surprised to see her.
10- The cave of Maraspoli
This cave is located just below the castle of "Ermink", and has two entrances, under which a river is used to provide the city with drinking water in addition to generating electricity used in lighting the city.
It is 196 meters long, and is the third largest cave in the world, and you will see inside the stalagmites and stalactites you have not seen like in your life.
The cuisine of the city of Karaman is rich in food and is indebted to that saturated with different cultures such as nomads, Turkmen, Circassians and Armenians.
Karaman is particularly characterized by cooking meat, legumes and dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, bulgur and pastries. It is also famous for cooking vegetables and dried fruits. The city is known as one of the areas of dry and humid air in Anatolia.
Butter is used in the Karaman cuisine in most foods, but at the same time in some areas such as "Armenique" olive oil and is used because of the influence of the Mediterranean cuisine, which is only 100 kilometers from Karaman.
The most famous university is called Karamanoglu Mehmet Bey University, after the founder of many of the city's facilities, which declared Turkish as an official language for the first time.
