Studying in the land of a thousand lakes
Jyväskylä
Sauna, snow, northern light, different cultures, great people, expensive beer, a new world... Just some words that come to mind when thinking of my exchange period in 2012, in Jyväskylä, Finland.
Most people reacted with questions like "why on earth Finland?" and "Don't you have polar bears there?". Nobody is familiar with the country, thats what partly makes it special. As I don't feel like writing a too long story I'll keep it short.
In a nutshell: new friendships that last for a lifetime, small city with many students, a lot of activities, all students live around 2 nearby campuses so always something to do, Finnish people are shy at first but can be very cool (get to know them), really big international community, Vappu (national holiday), Santa Claus lives there, Russia is close...
